MCON began when Josh King, frustrated with the stagnation of mobile gaming and missing the freedom of handhelds like the DS and Game Boy, set out to design a pocketable MagSafe controller that didn’t exist. After 3D-printing a prototype and gaining overwhelming support on YouTube, he left college, formed a company, and began developing it until rising costs stalled progress. Josh then reached out to Ohsnap, and we reignited the project, refining the design into a sleek, functional controller that transformed a dorm-room idea into a polished gaming device.

    Just wow.

    This controller is amazing. I’ve been following it since the Kickstarter but decided not to back it because I’ve stopped using Kickstarter due to their policies.

    Anyway, it has everything you can think of: The newest joystick tech for anti drift, Switch mode, gyro, 5ghz mode (requires their accessory), the analogue triggers travel a surprisingly substantial amount for it being a pocketable controller, a recalibration mode if you ever need it, portrait mode, the ability to completely switch the device 180 degrees so the volume buttons are on top when using iPhones (why didn’t it come like be this default out of the box 🤔), micro textured back, pull out grips for weight management, and it appears to be user repairable. Plus, unlike the backbone (the main competitor to this controller) the buttons aren’t locked behind a monthly payment (you read that right, 2 buttons aren’t usable in the competitor’s controller unless you pay a monthly fee in this hellscape earth).

    The only downside is that it’s a little top heavy when a phone is attached. The pullout wings alleviate this and it looks like the other mcons they are launching after this are much lighter and come without the wings and therefore they will be even more top heavy. So it’s something to consider if you are waiting for the newer ones.

    The controller is pretty much perfect. The only thing that I would personally like is a waterproof version because my hands sweat so much that the controller would get destroyed if…
